Overview

RNU6-1158P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[3][4]. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved non-coding RNA and a core component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1]. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-1158P do not code for functional RNA or protein molecules and arise through genomic retrotransposition events, often mediated by LINE elements such as L1[4]. These pseudogenes are common in vertebrate genomes and serve as molecular fossils of retrotransposition, but do not have a direct role in biological function, disease, or therapeutic intervention[3][4]. There is no evidence that RNU6-1158P participates in cellular processes, functions as a biomarker, or is implicated in drug response. For data structuring purposes, this entry is best classified as a non-functional pseudogene related to U6 snRNA. The functional counterpart, U6 snRNA, participates in splicing but not in ligand binding or typical “receptor” activity[1][2]; pseudogenes simply catalog historical molecular events and may occasionally serve as markers for retrotransposition activity[4]. There is nothing therapeutically actionable about RNU6-1158P and including it as a drug target would be a category error.
