Overview

RNU6-1168P is a pseudogene locus annotated as "RNA, U6 small nuclear 1168, pseudogene" in the human genome[4][5]. It is one of many non-coding, nonfunctional copies of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, which itself is a key RNA component of the spliceosome complex involved in removal of introns from precursor mRNA in eukaryotes[3]. The U6 pseudogenes, including RNU6-1168P, usually do not produce stable or functional RNAs, and do not encode proteins or serve as biological regulators. Their biological significance, if any, is not established. Such pseudogenes are not considered therapeutic targets nor are they linked to any known pharmacological activity or clinical interventions[5][7]. The parent functional gene, U6 snRNA (not this pseudogene), is essential for RNA splicing[1][3][9]. U6 pseudogenes are common in the human genome but their roles—unlike those of certain "processed pseudogenes" for protein-coding RNAs—are mostly unknown and not druggable[2][5][7].
