Overview

RNU6-117P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family[4][5]. The canonical U6 snRNA is a non-coding RNA component of the U6 snRNP (small nuclear ribonucleoprotein), an essential element of the spliceosome which catalyzes intron removal from pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[3]. The U6 snRNA sequence is highly conserved and found in multiple copies (including many pseudogenes) throughout vertebrate genomes, reflecting its evolutionary significance[3][4]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-117P does not encode a functional RNA product and is not transcribed or involved in splicing or other cellular processes[4]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-117P are sometimes used as genomic markers to study retrotransposition dynamics but are considered nonfunctional[5]. No drugs are known to interact with RNU6-117P, and it does not represent a druggable molecular target, a disease biomarker, or a therapeutic safety concern. In summary, RNU6-117P is a nonfunctional, processed pseudogene that arose from retrotranspositional mechanisms and sequence duplication involving the highly conserved U6 snRNA gene[4][5].
