Overview

RNU6-120P is a pseudogene comprised of nucleic acid sequence similar to U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a key RNA involved in the spliceosomal machinery that catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]. Unlike the functional U6 snRNA gene, RNU6-120P does not encode a functional RNA molecule and is generally considered a product of retrotransposition events mediated by LINE-1 (L1) and other elements[3]. Such pseudogenes are widespread in mammalian genomes and typically lack introns and may contain scattered base mismatches compared to their parental gene[3]. They serve as markers of retrotransposition dynamics and genome evolution, but do not have known biological activity, receptor function, or disease relevance. In summary, RNU6-120P is a non-functional, processed pseudogene derived from the U6 snRNA gene, with no known role as a therapeutic target, no known biological function, and no relevance in current drug development or marker applications[3]. Its primary interest is in genomics and evolutionary biology.
