Overview

**RNA, U6 small nuclear 1218, pseudogene (RNU6-1218P)** is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA family, annotated in the human genome at chromosome 8[1][3][5][7]. Unlike functional U6 snRNA, which is an essential component of the spliceosome and involved in pre-mRNA splicing[10], RNU6-1218P is a non-functional RNA gene fragment, not transcribed into a functional product. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1218P are often remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not encode functional RNA or protein. There is currently no evidence that RNU6-1218P is involved in any biological process, disease, drug interaction, or used as a biomarker[1][3][7][9]. It is catalogued in genomic databases solely as a sequence homolog of the genuine U6 snRNA gene, serving as molecular background without known direct biological or therapeutic significance. There is nothing incorrect about this entry, but its function is limited to that of a typical processed pseudogene, with no evidence supporting it as a therapeutic target or having clinical relevance.
