Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1248, pseudogene (RNU6-1248P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene—a noncoding, nonfunctional remnant derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[3][7][1][5]. U6 small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) are critical components of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[8]. However, pseudogenes such as RNU6-1248P do not produce functional RNA products. These pseudogenes are commonly formed through retrotransposition events, particularly mediated by LINE-1 (L1) elements, and serve as evolutionary markers of genome rearrangement and the activity of mobile genetic elements[4]. RNU6-1248P and similar pseudogenes are abundant in the genome but have no known direct biological, therapeutic, or disease-modifying roles. They are not considered therapeutic drug targets, nor do they serve as clinically actionable biomarkers[3][7][1][4].
