Target
RNU6-1301P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-1301P is a human pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. Genuine U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, non-coding RNA and a central component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes. The U6 snRNA pseudogene RNU6-1301P results from retrotransposition or genome duplication events, which create non-functional genetic sequences that resemble authentic snRNA genes—the processed pseudogenes typically contain signature features such as truncated sequences, direct repeats, or poly(A) tracts. As a pseudogene, RNU6-1301P lacks the ability to encode functional RNA, does not participate in spliceosome assembly, and has neither established biological function nor disease association. While such pseudogenes can inform evolutionary studies or be used as markers for retrotransposon dynamics, they are not drug targets or biomarkers. In summary, although closely related to functional U6 snRNA, RNU6-1301P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 1301, pseudogene) is a non-functional genetic element and not relevant for drug discovery, biomarker development, or therapeutic targeting.
