Overview

U6 snRNA itself is an essential component of the spliceosome, the ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for excision of introns from pre-mRNA during mRNA splicing[1][3]. However, RNU6-1310P does not produce a functional RNA; it is classified as a pseudogene, which means it represents a nonfunctional remnant of a once-active U6 snRNA gene. U6 snRNA pseudogenes are commonly found throughout mammalian and vertebrate genomes due to retrotransposition and other genomic duplication events[2][4]. These pseudogenes do not participate in biological processes such as splicing and have no known role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner[2][5][4]. Their presence in the genome may serve as markers of retrotransposition activity but does not confer any canonical molecular or therapeutic function[2].
