01

Overview

RNU6-1330P represents a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are non-functional copies of genes, often created by retrotransposition events. The U6 snRNA pseudogenes have been amplified in the genome by LINE-1 (L1) retrotransposition mechanisms and typically lack intronic sequences and display scattered mismatches compared to the parental gene[1]. These pseudogenes are prevalent in vertebrate genomes and mark retrotransposition activity, but there is no evidence they encode a protein, participate in canonical biological processes, or are involved in disease. The functional U6 snRNA is essential for mRNA splicing in the spliceosome, but its processed pseudogenes like RNU6-1330P are generally transcriptionally silent and considered functionless evolutionary relics[3][4].
