The U6 snRNA from which this pseudogene is derived is an essential component of the spliceosome, mediating pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells, but the pseudogene itself does not participate in these processes[1][3][5]. RNU6-138P is used primarily as a genomic marker and is not considered a disease gene or a drug target[5].
