Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 153, pseudogene (RNU6-153P) is a pseudogene version of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes are genetic elements that resemble functional genes but have lost their ability to produce functional products due to mutations or truncations. Unlike the canonical U6 snRNA—which is highly conserved and essential for the assembly and catalytic activity of the spliceosome, the molecular machine that excises introns from pre-mRNA—the RNU6-153P pseudogene does not encode a functional RNA molecule. Pseudogene copies of U6 snRNA, including RNU6-153P, are common in vertebrate genomes and are considered remnants or "back-ups" of the functional gene, with no independent biological activity. Key distinction: The functional U6 small nuclear RNA is crucial in RNA splicing as part of the spliceosome, but pseudogenes like RNU6-153P are generally nonfunctional and do not act as receptors, targets, or binding sites for drugs.

Mechanism of action

None (Not targeted by drugs or therapies)

03

Biological functions

None (As a pseudogene, it does not perform a biological function; functional U6 snRNA is involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogene variants are generally non-functional)
04

Disease associations

None (No known direct disease role; functional U6 snRNA and spliceosome defects can be implicated in disease, but this pseudogene variant has not been associated)
05

Safety considerations

None (No therapeutic challenges or safety concerns are reported for this pseudogene)
06

Interacting drugs

None (No known drugs target this pseudogene)
07

Biomarkers

None (This pseudogene is not used as a biomarker)
