RNA, U6 small nuclear 159, pseudogene (RNU6-159P)

Target
RNU6-159P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA-derived pseudogene, Other
01

Overview

RNU6-159P is a **processed pseudogene** that originated from retrotransposition of the U6 spliceosomal small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, a key non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome complex. Unlike functional U6 snRNA, which catalyzes intron excision as part of pre-mRNA splicing[1][3], RNU6-159P does not participate in splicing or encode a functional product. The presence of multiple U6-derived pseudogenes in the genome reflects retrotransposition and template switching events by LINE retroelements[5]. Like most pseudogenes, RNU6-159P is considered molecular "fossil" and lacks demonstrated biological activity, disease involvement, or drug targeting capacity in current literature[5].

Mechanism of action

None (no mechanism of action; not a drug target).

03

Biological functions

None known (as a pseudogene, does not carry out the biological functions performed by U6 snRNA)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease implication or functional role established for RNU6-159P; most pseudogenes do not have established disease roles unless expressed or functioning in regulatory networks)
