RNA, U6 small nuclear 20, pseudogene (RNU6-20P) is a pseudogene related to the canonical U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), a highly conserved non-coding RNA essential for pre-mRNA splicing in the spliceosome of eukaryotic cells[4][3][5]. RNU6-20P itself does not produce functional RNA or protein, as pseudogenes are typically non-functional genomic elements arising from genomic duplication or retrotransposition events; they are considered "genetic relics" lacking biological activity[4][5]. The functional parent molecule, U6 snRNA, is a component of the spliceosome, participating directly in catalysis of intron removal from pre-mRNA, but RNU6-20P is not involved in these processes[1][3]. Multiple U6-related pseudogenes like RNU6-20P are present in the genome and can serve as markers of retrotranspositional dynamics but are not involved in disease, drug targeting, or biological signaling[5][4].
