The RNA, U6 small nuclear 203, pseudogene (RNU6-203P) is a processed pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family, which produces highly conserved snRNA molecules involved in the spliceosome machinery for intron removal from pre-mRNA transcripts[2]. Pseudogene copies like RNU6-203P lack canonical promoter elements and cannot generate functional snRNA; instead, their transcripts, if expressed, may participate in noncoding RNA-mediated regulatory processes, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), decoying miRNAs, or interacting with RNA-binding proteins to modulate the stability or translation of related coding genes[1][3][5]. Experimental data suggest some pseudogenes can influence chromatin environment and gene silencing through small RNA-mediated epigenetic mechanisms[1]. RNU6-203P itself is not a validated therapeutic or diagnostic target, does not encode a protein, and its functional relevance remains largely uncharacterized beyond these general pseudogene roles in regulatory biology.
