Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 231, pseudogene (RNU6-231P)

Target
RNU6-231P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (derived from snRNA gene)
01

Overview

RNU6-231P is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. U6 snRNA is a key spliceosomal RNA with an essential role in nuclear pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-231P are non-functional DNA sequences generated by retrotransposition events. These pseudogenes do not produce functional RNA or protein and serve primarily as evolutionary relics or molecular markers of retrotransposition dynamics. RNU6-231P and related U6 snRNA pseudogenes lack biological activity, are not involved in disease processes, and are not considered drug targets. Their main scientific interest is in studies of genomic architecture and evolutionary biology[2][3].

Other names

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally lack known biological functions. Their only role may be in genome architecture or as molecular markers for retrotransposition activity.
04

Disease associations

No established role in disease; U6 snRNA pseudogenes are sometimes studied for their utility as markers of retrotransposition. There is no evidence of direct involvement in cancer, inflammation, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular disease, or infection.
05

Biomarkers

Markers of retrotransposition activity and genomic evolution (not for clinical patient selection or efficacy monitoring)
