Overview

RNU6-268P is a human pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. The U6 snRNA is a major component of the spliceosome, which catalyzes the removal of introns from pre-mRNA[1][3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-268P does not encode a functional RNA or protein. Pseudogenes like RNU6-268P are generally considered non-functional remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events, although the broader family of pseudogenes can occasionally be transcribed and exert regulatory effects, such as acting as miRNA decoys or ensuring post-transcriptional regulation of their parental genes[2]. There is currently no evidence that RNU6-268P itself participates in any known biological pathway, disease mechanism, or functions as a drug target[5].

Biological functions

No functional product (as is characteristic of pseudogenes)May have regulatory roles if transcribed, such as acting as competing endogenous RNA, miRNA sponge, antisense RNA, or influence on parental gene expression (general for pseudogenes, not specifically established for RNU6-268P)

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association is known for RNU6-268P)Pseudogenes in general may impact gene regulation and cancer progressionno evidence links this specific pseudogene to disease
