RNA, U6 small nuclear 269, pseudogene (RNU6-269P) is a non-functional, non-coding RNA pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) serve an essential, conserved role in the catalysis of pre-mRNA splicing by forming the core of the spliceosome, but functional U6 snRNAs are distinct from pseudogenes such as RNU6-269P, which lack evidence of expression or protein-coding capacity[3]. Pseudogenes are usually considered “genomic fossils” and are not functional therapeutic targets; however, some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects at the RNA level, such as acting as microRNA sponges or sources of non-coding RNA regulators, though there is no direct evidence that RNU6-269P does so[2][4]. There are no known disease associations, therapeutic interactions, or biomarker uses for RNU6-269P, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target.
