RNU6-272P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 272, pseudogene) is a copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene that has become a pseudogene through retrotransposition or genomic duplication. Unlike active U6 snRNA, which is a core component of the spliceosome essential for nuclear pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3], RNU6-272P does not produce functional RNA or protein, and has no established biological role. Pseudogenes like RNU6-272P are common in vertebrate genomes and typically represent nonfunctional remnants from retrotransposition events[4][5]. They can serve as markers for retrotransposition activity in evolutionary genomics, but are generally irrelevant for therapeutic drug targeting, disease roles, or clinical safety[4][5].
