RNA, U6 small nuclear 287, pseudogene (RNU6-287P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the family of U6 small nuclear RNA gene pseudogenes. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically non-functional due to accumulation of disabling mutations and are not known to encode functional proteins or RNAs. RNU6-287P is annotated as a non-coding RNA derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA family but is not believed to have biological activity; its functional parent, U6 small nuclear RNA, is an essential component of the spliceosome responsible for mRNA processing in eukaryotes. There is no evidence that RNU6-287P is involved in disease or used as a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
