Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 289, pseudogene (RNU6-289P)

Target
RNU6-289P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene, Non-coding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-289P is a human pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA family. U6 snRNA is a noncoding RNA integral to the spliceosome complex, essential for the splicing of pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[5][13]. RNU6-289P itself does not produce functional RNA or protein, nor participate in recognized cellular processes. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-289P often arise through retrotransposition or genomic duplication events, resulting in non-functional genomic copies. While some pseudogenes can acquire novel regulatory functions, there is no evidence that RNU6-289P is actively transcribed or relevant in any biological pathway, clinical context, or as a drug target[6][7][10].

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None known; does not have described biological functions itself. The active parent molecule, U6 snRNA, is involved in spliceosome assembly for pre-mRNA splicing[5][13].Pseudogenes can sometimes exert indirect regulatory effects (such as competitive endogenous RNA activity), but there is no specific evidence for RNU6-289P[4].
04

Disease associations

None known; not implicated in any disease or pathology. Some other snRNA pseudogenes have been reported to correlate with disease, but RNU6-289P is not documented as such[2][7].
