Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 298, pseudogene (RNU6-298P) is a genomic pseudogene corresponding to the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA gene, but it does not encode a functional product[4][7]. U6 small nuclear RNA itself is a critical component of the spliceosome, involved in intron removal during mRNA splicing[1][3][5], but RNU6-298P is one of many fragmented, nonfunctional copies dispersed through the human genome that serve as evolutionary remnants rather than active participants in cellular processes. Pseudogenes like RNU6-298P generally have no protein product and are not implicated as therapeutic targets, disease markers, or mechanistic entities. In rare cases, pseudogenes may have regulatory roles or be transcribed, but there is no evidence for RNU6-298P having such activity[4][7].
