Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 300, pseudogene (RNU6-300P) is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. Pseudogenes are considered genomic sequences resembling known genes but are typically nonfunctional due to disabling mutations or lack of regulatory elements needed for expression. While the canonical U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, essential RNA component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing, RNU6-300P lacks demonstrated function and does not produce a functional product. Processed pseudogenes like RNU6-300P usually arise from retrotransposition events and, in the majority of cases, are not transcribed or translated. Although a small proportion of pseudogenes can be transcribed or exhibit partial regulatory activity, there is no evidence that RNU6-300P is active, nor that it serves a diagnostic or therapeutic role. If you are seeking a potential drug target, enzymes, or classical receptors, RNU6-300P does not qualify as it is a nonfunctional pseudogene. If you refer instead to the functional small nuclear RNA U6, search for “U6 small nuclear RNA” for biologically active information.
