RNA, U6 small nuclear 308, pseudogene (RNU6-308P) is a pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA). U6 snRNA itself is a critical non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells, where it functions as part of ribonucleoprotein complexes involved in intron removal from pre-mRNA[1][3]. U6 snRNA is highly conserved and functionally essential, but RNU6-308P, as a pseudogene, is a non-functional copy resulting from the duplication or retrotransposition of the parent U6 snRNA gene that has accumulated mutations and does not produce a functional RNA molecule[2][3]. Like many other U6 pseudogenes in the human genome, RNU6-308P has no validated biological function, is not a therapeutic target, and has no known roles in disease or treatment. Its existence illustrates the evolutionary importance and high copy number of U6 snRNA sequences among vertebrates[2][3].
