RNU6-317P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 317, pseudogene) is a pseudogene closely related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene in humans, but it does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target. It is a human pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) sequence. U6 snRNA is an essential, highly conserved component of the spliceosome, responsible for catalyzing intron removal from pre-mRNA during RNA splicing in eukaryotes. However, RNU6-317P itself is a non-functional copy (pseudogene) and does not participate in splicing or other known cellular processes. Human genomes contain many U6-derived pseudogenes, thought to have arisen by duplication and mutation. While most pseudogenes do not produce functional products, some pseudogenes occasionally generate non-coding RNAs that can be transcribed but generally have limited or no biological activity. RNU6-317P does not currently have any established clinical or research role, is not a therapeutic target, and lacks evidence of disease involvement or drug interaction. It is not a functional gene or receptor. It is not a recognized drug target and does not have biological functions or disease associations ascribed to it. U6 pseudogenes are common in vertebrate genomes and generally serve no direct function.
