Overview

RNU6-352P is a pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA). Unlike functional U6 snRNA, which is a critical component of the spliceosome machinery involved in pre-mRNA splicing, RNU6-352P is a non-functional pseudogenic copy that lacks the ability to produce functional RNA transcripts[4][5]. U6 snRNA normally plays essential roles in RNA splicing by forming base-pair interactions with other spliceosomal components, including U4 and U2 snRNAs, and undergoes extensive conformational changes during the splicing process[1][3]. The functional U6 snRNA contains important structural elements like the 5' stem-loop and internal stem-loop, and is modified with pseudouridines and methylations at specific positions that are crucial for its function[3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-352P represents a non-functional copy that has accumulated mutations over evolutionary time and is no longer capable of producing functional protein or RNA products. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or through other mechanisms[2], there is no evidence suggesting that RNU6-352P has any specific biological function or therapeutic relevance. Therefore, it is not considered a viable therapeutic target.
