Overview

RNU6-389P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 389, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene in the human genome[1][2][6]. It is classified as a *pseudogene* of the U6 family of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), specifically denoted as "copynumber 389." U6 snRNAs are essential components of the spliceosome, the large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA during splicing[3][5]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-389P does *not* produce a functional RNA product and is neither expected nor reported to encode any protein or participate in biological functions[1][2][6]. It exists in the genome as a non-functional relic of gene duplication or retrotransposition events. There are typically many U6 pseudogenes in vertebrate genomes, reflecting the genomic importance and evolutionary history of the U6 snRNA but not conferring biological function to pseudogenes themselves[5]. There is no evidence supporting a role for RNU6-389P in disease, no interacting drugs, known biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with this molecule. Its designation as a pseudogene means it is *not* a therapeutic target or functional biomolecule.
