Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 401, pseudogene (RNU6-401P) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene in human genomes, related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family[5][6]. U6 snRNA is a critical RNA component of the spliceosome required for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-401P do not encode functional products but are derived from active genes by duplication or retrotransposition, accumulating mutations that usually eliminate normal function[4]. While many pseudogenes are “dead” copies, some can have regulatory RNA roles or be involved in disease as described generally for pseudogenes (e.g., modulating gene expression, acting as miRNA sponges, or serving as clinical biomarkers), specific functions or disease links for RNU6-401P have not been described[2][4][6]. This pseudogene is not a drug target, does not code for a protein, and is not associated with adverse safety or therapeutic concerns.

Other names
RNU6-401P[5][6]RNA, U6 snRNA 401, pseudogene (no other widespread aliases found)
02

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional, but can occasionally have regulatory roles at the RNA level[2][4])
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes may serve as biomarkers or be involved in disease by modulating parental gene expression, but there is no direct evidence for RNU6-401P in disease[2][4])
