Overview

RNU6-417P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 417, pseudogene) is a non-protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7 that represents an inactive, non-functional (pseudogene) copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is a highly conserved non-coding RNA with an essential function in the spliceosome, the molecular machinery responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes. Multiple U6-derived pseudogenes occur in the human genome, but these do not produce functional RNA or protein and are not associated with known biological activity or disease mechanisms. While pseudogenes can sometimes regulate their parent genes or participate in gene expression networks, such roles are not established for RNU6-417P.
