RNA, U6 small nuclear 429, pseudogene (RNU6-429P)

Target
RNU6-429P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Small nuclear RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6-429P is a non-functional pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family, specifically the 429th annotated variant in the human genome. U6 snRNA is normally a component of the spliceosome, facilitating the removal of introns from pre-mRNA, but RNU6-429P does not encode a functional RNA molecule, contain essential protein interactions, or affect spliceosomal mechanisms. It is a remnant of gene duplication or retrotransposition events, retaining sequence similarity (~77% homology) with authentic U6 snRNA but lacking biological activity or regulatory function. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA are common in the genome and serve no known biological, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic role.
