Overview

RNU6-514P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 514, pseudogene) is a **pseudogene** and not a protein-coding gene or functional RNA. It belongs to a class of genomic sequences that resemble functional genes but are generally considered nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations or lack of proper transcriptional regulation[2][6]. RNU6-514P is derived from the genuine U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, which itself is a component of the spliceosome and essential in pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-514P does not produce functional U6 snRNA and has no known biological activity or role as a therapeutic or diagnostic target[6]. There are many such U6 snRNA pseudogenes in the genome, arising through evolutionary duplication events; while they retain high sequence similarity, they lack functional roles[4][5]. There is no evidence for involvement of RNU6-514P in disease, drug interactions, or use as a biomarker. This entry should not be considered a likely drug target or relevant in therapeutic contexts.
