Overview

RNU6-553P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 553, pseudogene) is classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[4]. While the canonical U6 snRNA is an essential RNA component of the spliceosome that catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNU6-553P do not produce a functional RNA product and are generally considered non-functional remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events[4]. There is no evidence that RNU6-553P serves as a protein, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or other functional molecular target. As such, it is not considered a therapeutic target or involved directly in biological pathways, nor is there literature supporting a role in disease, pharmacology, or clinical biomarker use[4][2]. There can be confusion because the U6 snRNA gene family contains many functional and nonfunctional (pseudogene) copies in the human genome[5]. To summarize, RNU6-553P is a pseudogene corresponding to a small nuclear RNA, with no current evidence of transcriptional, biological, or pharmacological function, and is not considered a therapeutic target[4].
