U6 snRNA is normally an essential component of the spliceosome, driving the splicing of pre-mRNA through its catalytic and structural RNA functions. However, pseudogenes such as RNU6-616P are genomic copies or variants of snRNA genes that do not encode functional RNA and are not actively involved in splicing or other cellular processes.
