RNU6-647P is annotated as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional products. While functional U6 snRNA molecules are essential components of the spliceosome and involved in pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic nuclei[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNU6-647P are not believed to have any active role in splicing or cell biology. Their main significance is as genomic remnants of retrotransposition events or gene duplication, and they do not serve as therapeutic targets, functional receptors, enzymes, transporters, or transcription factors[4]. There are no known drugs targeting this pseudogene and it has no established use as a biomarker or implications for patient safety.
