Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 655, pseudogene (RNU6-655P) is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA family found in humans[1]. U6 snRNA pseudogenes are non-coding elements generated by retrotrasposition, often as chimeric sequences joined to LINE-1 elements via an RNA ligation process mediated by the RNA ligase RtcB[3]. These pseudogenes do not encode proteins and generally lack direct biological activity, but may conceivably contribute to transcriptomic regulation or genomic variation. While several pseudogenes are implicated as regulators in cancer and other diseases via ceRNA activity[2], no disease associations or functional studies are documented for RNU6-655P specifically. It is not considered a therapeutic target or clinical biomarker.

Biological functions

No direct protein-coding functionceRNA (competing endogenous RNA) activity (possible, but not specifically reported for this exact pseudogene)Regulation of transcriptome diversity through chimeric RNA formation with LINE-1 elements (a general property of U6 snRNA pseudogenes but not documented for RNU6-655P itself)
03

Disease associations

None specifically reported for RNU6-655P.Pseudogenes in the U6 or other snRNA family can potentially play roles in: Cancer (through ceRNA interactions and transcriptome regulation, reported for other pseudogenes)Other (implicated in genomic instability if inserted inappropriately, but not demonstrated for this gene)
