Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 659, pseudogene (RNU6-659P) is a human pseudogene classified as a small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene. It does not encode a functional protein and is annotated as a processed pseudogene corresponding to the U6 snRNA, which is a critical component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing[2][3]. RNU6-659P itself is non-coding and is not known to have a direct molecular function or therapeutic target role. However, by analogy to other pseudogenes, it may contribute to gene regulation via acting as a decoy for microRNAs or generating noncoding transcripts that could regulate parental gene expression or influence RNA-protein interactions[4]. There is no current evidence linking RNU6-659P specifically to drug interactions, biomarkers, or disease mechanisms. RNU6-659P is one of many U6 snRNA pseudogenes found throughout the human genome; these pseudogenes reflect the evolutionary importance and high sequence conservation of U6 snRNA, but individual pseudogenes like RNU6-659P typically do not have functional protein or direct regulatory roles[3]. Some pseudogenes more generally have roles in competing for miRNAs or generating lncRNAs that regulate other genes, but specific data for RNU6-659P is lacking[4].
