Target
RNU6-68P
Molecular classification

Overview

RNU6-68P is a nonfunctional pseudogene derived from U6 snRNA, an essential component of the spliceosome complex involved in the excision of introns from pre-mRNA[3][4]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-68P are created by retrotransposition events, frequently involving LINE-1 elements, which copy and insert RNA gene sequences back into the genome[1][5]. While functional U6 snRNA is highly conserved and crucial for mRNA splicing, pseudogenes like RNU6-68P do not produce active RNA or have known biological activity[4][5]. Instead, they serve as markers of genome evolution and retrotransposon activity. RNU6-68P is not considered a drug target, does not encode a receptor, enzyme, or functional protein, and has no validated clinical or pharmacological relevance. RNU6-68P is not a receptor, enzyme, or any conventional “target” relevant for drug development or therapeutic intervention; it is a retrotransposed pseudogene, not an active molecular species[4][5]. It is not misspelled, but may be incorrectly listed as a target in databases focused on functional biomolecules.

Biological functions

Other (RNU6-68P’s “function” is as a genetic marker of LINE-1 retrotransposition activity, but it does not participate in cellular processes directly[5])
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease role; may be used as a marker in studies of genomic retrotransposition dynamics[5])
