Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 687, pseudogene (RNU6-687P) is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family, specifically homologous to U6 snRNA but classified as a non-functional genomic sequence that does not yield a functional small nuclear RNA product[1]. U6 snRNA is a conserved component of the spliceosome, essential for intron removal during pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[3][5], but the RNU6-687P locus does not encode a functional snRNA and is not implicated in spliceosomal function. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA are common in the human genome and generally do not have independent biological or therapeutic relevance, although some pseudogenes (not necessarily RNU6-687P) are reported to act through regulatory mechanisms such as competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) or miRNA decoys in other contexts[2]. There are no known drug interactions, disease associations, biomarker roles, or safety liabilities specific to RNU6-687P.
