Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 71, pseudogene (RNU6-71P)

Target
RNU6-71P
Molecular classification
processed pseudogene (derived from small nuclear RNA, U6)
01

Overview

RNU6-71P is a **processed RNA pseudogene** derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene but does not encode a functional transcript. U6 snRNA itself is a critical component of the spliceosome, coordinating the catalysis of pre-mRNA splicing, but the numerous pseudogenes, including RNU6-71P, are relics produced by retrotransposition and template-switching mechanisms involving LINE elements (such as L1)[3]. These pseudogenes do not participate in splicing, signal transduction, or other cell functions, nor are they active as drug targets or disease biomarkers. Instead, their existence marks the evolutionary history of small nuclear RNA retrotransposition in eukaryotic genomes[3].
