Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 718, pseudogene (RNU6-718P) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a pseudogene related to the family of U6 small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs)[4][5]. U6 snRNAs are essential and highly conserved components of the spliceosome, which catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, RNU6-718P itself is a pseudogene — a defective genomic DNA sequence similar to a functional gene but generally non-functional due to mutations, absence of essential regulatory elements, or other disruptions[4][6]. Like other U6 pseudogenes, RNU6-718P does not produce a functional snRNA product and does not contribute to spliceosomal function. Pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed and may have regulatory roles (e.g., producing non-coding RNAs or influencing gene expression), but there is no evidence that RNU6-718P specifically has known biological activity, role in disease, or is a target for any drug or therapeutic[4][6][8].
