Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 745, pseudogene (RNU6-745P) is a *processed pseudogene* of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U6 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome, the cellular machinery responsible for pre-messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) splicing in eukaryotes. U6 snRNA itself is highly conserved and essential for splicing, forming a critical part of the spliceosomal active site[1][3]. However, RNU6-745P is a copy of the U6 snRNA gene which has acquired sequence changes or truncations such that it does not encode a functional RNA, nor is it known to be transcribed into a functional molecule. Like many other snRNA pseudogenes, it is found in the human genome as part of the evolutionary proliferation of small RNA gene copies[3]. While some pseudogenes have been found to exert regulatory effects—for example, by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or through antisense mechanisms—such roles have not been established for RNU6-745P or for most U6 pseudogenes[2]. As such, this pseudogene is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise a conventional therapeutic target.
