Overview

RNU6-753P is a pseudogene derived from U6 small nuclear RNA, a highly conserved RNA component of the spliceosome complex which is critical for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells. In contrast to functional U6 snRNA genes, pseudogenes such as RNU6-753P do not produce an active RNA molecule and generally lack a biological role. The prevalence of multiple U6-derived pseudogenes in vertebrate genomes reflects evolutionary processes, primarily retrotransposition, rather than functional redundancy. As a pseudogene, RNU6-753P is not used as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or subject to known drug interactions or safety concerns. Functional U6 snRNA is essential for the formation and catalytic activity of the spliceosome, enabling the removal of introns from pre-mRNA through specific RNA-protein interactions and dynamic secondary structures. U6 snRNA pseudogenes have been studied as markers for retrotransposition and molecular evolution, but do not have direct disease roles or therapeutic relevance. While some pseudogenes have acquired regulatory functions (e.g., miRNA decoys impacting oncogenic processes), there is no evidence or literature supporting such a regulatory role for RNU6-753P specifically.
