Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 792, pseudogene (RNU6-792P) is a member of the large family of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogenes in the human genome. While the canonical U6 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome where it plays an essential catalytic role in pre-mRNA splicing[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNU6-792P are the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events that have accumulated mutations and lost the ability to produce functional U6 snRNA molecules[4][5]. U6-derived pseudogenes are prevalent in vertebrate genomes[3]. While most pseudogenes, including RNU6-792P, are generally considered non-functional ("dead" genes), emerging studies indicate that some pseudogenes can generate non-coding transcripts involved in *trans*-regulation of gene expression (e.g., “miRNA sponges” or sources of small interfering RNAs) or participate in epigenetic modulation[2][4]. However, there is no evidence that RNU6-792P is a therapeutic target, is directly associated with disease, or interacts with drugs. Pseudogenes generally do not encode proteins, nor do they possess the canonical regulatory or catalytic activity of their parental genes.

Biological functions

Other (not a functional gene product; pseudogenes generally do not encode functional molecules but may participate in *cis* or *trans* regulation under certain contexts[2][4])
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes can modulate expression of parental genes or participate in ceRNA/miRNA networks in cancer and other conditions, but no disease association shown specifically for RNU6-792P[4])
