RNA, U6 small nuclear 818, pseudogene (RNU6-818P) is a genomic locus in the human genome similar to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene but identified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically are non-functional due to sequence mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements. The canonical U6 small nuclear RNA is an essential component of the spliceosome responsible for splicing pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells[7], but the RNU6-818P locus does not encode a functional RNA and is not involved in RNA splicing or other cellular processes. There are no known associations with disease, therapeutic interventions, or clinical biomarkers for this pseudogene[1][10][11].
