Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 837, pseudogene (RNU6-837P) is a processed pseudogene belonging to the family of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) genes. U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, catalyzing pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes; however, RNU6-837P itself does not code for functional RNA or protein. The human genome contains many U6-derived pseudogenes, which typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally transcriptionally silent. There is no evidence that RNU6-837P acts as a receptor, enzyme, or signaling protein; it is not a therapeutic target nor associated with disease phenotypes, drugs, or regulatory activity. The canonical U6 snRNA gene (not this pseudogene) is highly conserved across species and is essential for cell viability due to its role in splicing, but the pseudogene copy RNU6-837P does not have established molecular or clinical significance.

Other names
RNU6-837PRNA, U6 small nuclear 837, pseudogene
02

Mechanism of action

None (not a drug target)

03

Biological functions

None known for the pseudogene copy itself. U6 snRNA (the parent gene) plays a core role in mRNA splicing within the spliceosome, but pseudogenes are generally transcriptionally inactive or non-functional.
04

Disease associations

None specifically attributed to RNU6-837P. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory effects or be linked to disease through indirect mechanisms, there is no evidence for RNU6-837P involvement.
05

Safety considerations

None directly, as it is not targeted for therapy
06

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker). Some pseudogenes may have regulatory or biomarker potential in rare cases, but not described for RNU6-837P.
