Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 847, pseudogene (RNU6-847P) is a human pseudogene that belongs to the family of U6 small nuclear RNAs, which play a crucial role in the spliceosome-mediated removal of introns from pre-mRNA in eukaryotes. Unlike functional U6 snRNA genes, pseudogenes such as RNU6-847P are generally considered non-coding and are not believed to produce functional RNA or protein products. Their sequence similarity to the functional U6 snRNA genes reflects their derivation from ancestral U6 genes that have lost their function through mutation. While some pseudogenes can occasionally be transcribed, their transcripts typically lack biological activity. There is no evidence that RNU6-847P functions as a regulator, biomarker, or drug target. The U6 small nuclear RNA is highly conserved and essential for splicing, but RNU6-847P itself is a pseudogene copy, not producing active U6 snRNA, and is not a receptor, enzyme, or any classic drug target class. Pseudogenes can sometimes be mistakenly listed as targets or genes of interest, but current evidence and databases definitively classify RNU6-847P as a nonfunctional genomic element.

Biological functions

None (this entry is a pseudogene; functional U6 snRNA is involved in mRNA splicing, but the pseudogene itself is considered nonfunctional)
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes are generally not directly involved in disease; occasionally they can regulate parental gene expression or act as competing endogenous RNAs, but there is no evidence linking RNU6-847P to specific diseases)
