RNA, U6 small nuclear 889, pseudogene (RNU6-889P)

Target
RNU6-889P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene); not a receptor, enzyme, channel, transporter, or transcription factor
01

Overview

RNU6-889P is a processed pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family, which encodes a non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome in its functional form. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-889P arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and normally do not generate functional RNA or protein products. Most U6 pseudogenes, including RNU6-889P, are non-functional genomic elements without known physiological or pathological significance, although in rare cases, pseudogene transcripts can have regulatory effects (for instance, by acting as microRNA decoys or producing small interfering RNAs). RNU6-889P itself is not a principal focus of biomedical research, is not considered a therapeutic target, and is largely of interest for reference in genomics and bioinformatics databases.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

Can potentially serve regulatory roles in gene networks, such as decoys for small RNAs or regulatory elements when transcribed, but does not participate in the splicing mechanism itself, unlike functional U6 snRNA genesNo direct catalytic, signal transduction, or physiological function like canonical snRNAs or proteins
04

Disease associations

Most pseudogenes have no direct role in disease, but a few have been shown to exert indirect regulatory effects, occasionally being associated with cancer or other conditions when dysregulated at the transcript level. There is no published evidence implicating RNU6-889P specifically in such roles.
