RNA, U6 small nuclear 90, pseudogene (RNU6-90P) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA locus. Pseudogenes are typically genomic sequences that resemble functional genes but are non-functional and do not produce active transcripts or proteins. The ancestral active U6 small nuclear RNA is one of the most conserved and functionally crucial RNAs involved in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome complex in eukaryotic nuclei[5][1]. However, RNU6-90P itself is an inactive genomic remnant without known biological activity, disease relevance, or therapeutic interactions[4][5]. Its presence reflects the abundance of U6 snRNA-derived pseudogene copies found throughout vertebrate genomes, which may result from mechanisms such as retrotransposition but do not impact cell function directly[3][5].
