RNU6-906P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 906, pseudogene) is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements necessary for expression. U6 small nuclear RNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, playing a crucial role in pre-mRNA splicing, but RNU6-906P itself does not produce a functional RNA involved in splicing. Processed pseudogenes such as RNU6-906P arise through retrotransposition mechanisms, often mediated by LINE-1 (L1) elements. Although some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression through decoy functions or generation of non-coding RNAs, there is no evidence of RNU6-906P having such a role. RNU6-906P is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor.
