Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 939, pseudogene (RNU6-939P) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a pseudogene related to U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA). U6 snRNA is an essential RNA involved in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome complex in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. In contrast, the RNU6-939P locus represents a pseudogene copy, meaning it is similar in sequence to the canonical U6 snRNA gene but is not functional and does not contribute to spliceosome assembly or catalysis. Many U6 snRNA pseudogenes are found in vertebrate genomes and may have evolved through gene duplication events as nonfunctional backups[1]. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNAs or miRNA sponges), no specific biological or pathological role has been identified for RNU6-939P. It is not a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and no drugs are known to interact with it.
