Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 958, pseudogene (RNU6-958P) is a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family in Homo sapiens. U6 snRNA genes encode components of the spliceosome required for RNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-958P are non-functional genomic copies that do not encode a functional RNA product. They arise via retrotransposition and serve as genomic markers of retrotransposition activity, such as LINE-1 (L1) activity, but do not have known biological or therapeutic functions. There is no clinical or disease relevance, and it is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker. This gene is referenced by authoritative sources including NCBI, HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC), GeneCards, and Monarch Initiative, all classifying it as a pseudogene. U6 snRNA pseudogenes are remnants of the functional U6 gene, created by retrotransposition. They do not encode active snRNAs and are considered non-protein-coding sequences. There is no evidence that RNU6-958P produces a functional product or is involved in any disease or biological process; functional studies on related mouse pseudogenes also report no molecular or process annotation. No drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety issues are associated with this pseudogene. The role of U6 snRNA functional genes is in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes are non-functional and do not participate in these biological processes.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable—pseudogene, not a drug target.

03

Biological functions

None known; standard snRNAs are involved in RNA splicing, but this is a pseudogene and is not thought to perform a biological function.
04

Disease associations

None known; no current evidence links this pseudogene to disease.
